Haylage

Unlike hay, haylage is baled and wrapped before the moisture in the grass dries out. This retained moisture in the grass means that haylage is:

More nutritious than hay. In fact, after fermentation has taken place, haylage contains almost the same amount of goodness as fresh grass
Extra nutrition values means horses need to eat less haylage in comparison to hay

Haylage is moist, so is not affected by dust. This makes it ideal for horses with breathing problems such as COPD, SPAOD, and RAOD

Haylage can be stored outside, although it's nutritionally at its best within 7-10 days after the bale has been opened.

At T C Brears, we sell high quality Ryegrass and Meadow haylage that can be used to feed all types of horse, especially those that have breathing disorders.

However, as haylage is rich in nutrients, horses that are retired, in light work only, or are prone to weight gain may be better suited to hay. (We also sell high quality hay).
