Hay is an excellent substitute for natural grazing as it is high in fibre, protein and calcium – all of which are key parts of a healthy, balanced diet. When stabled, chewing hay also helps to relieve boredom.

But when you are buying hay for your horse, it is important that you choose the right type of hay and that the hay is free from dust and mould, as these can cause respiratory problems.

At T C Brears, we grow our own meadow hay right here on our family farm in Crowle. Why do we grow our own? Because it allows us to make sure our hay is cut at exactly the right time. Just before the grass goes to seed, when the hay has its highest nutritional value and is in its most digestible state.
